Thérèse Raquin (1953)
a.k.a. The Adultress
Director: Marcel Carné
Summary[edit | edit source]
Trapped in a passionless marriage, Thérèse Raquin (Simone Signoret) falls for a handsome truck driver (Raf Vallone). Their forbidden love soon leads to tragedy. This adaptation of Emile Zola's 1867 novel sets the story in the 20th century, as well as taking other liberties with the source material; most significantly, this version does not include the deaths of the adulterous lovers.
