Trivia[]
.) Despite that there is nudity, there is no indecency. No nipples, rear crack, nor genitalia were meant to be seen.
.) This is the fictionalized account of Colleen Applegate a.k.a. Shauna Grant, a small town girl who took her own life after drugs and a brief career in porn apparently took their toll.
.) The real "Pauline" (a.k.a. Shauna Grant) was born Colleen Marie Applegate on May 20, 1963. She was born in California but moved with her family to Minnesota in 1973. She moved back to California in 1982 and fell into the adult movie industry. She retired from adult films in 1983. Her parents offered to pay her tuition to college if she moved back home to Minnesota but she declined thinking she would no longer feel comfortable there. Sadly, she took her life on March 23, 1984. She was 20-years old.
.) This movie is based on the real-life porn actress Pauline Applegate (stage name Shauna Grant). When Pauline comes home for Christmas the first time and is showing her sisters her portfolio, a photo of Colleen Applegate is seen in the portfolio. The camera cuts to her mother and then back to the photos, the photo shown is of Colleen Applegate.
.) Colleen Applegate's high school yearbook was one of a very few personal possessions she kept with her. Her personal possessions left behind could fit in a large envelope.
.) Colleen's mother doesn't believe she killed herself, she believes she was murdered in a plot set up by her cocaine-dealing boyfriend, Jake Erlich (called 'Mel Erman' in this movie). Her mother believes that when Erlich went to prison and ended the relationship, he was afraid Colleen would reveal his drug connections. However, the Palm Springs police department feel certain that it was a suicide and the case remains closed.
.) When Pauleen is in Lou Gates' office, one of his boxing poster reads Ben Frankel, a play to Lou's actor, Ben Frank.
.) The high school photos on the yearbook that Pauleen shows Mel would later be shown in future movies, including Soap-dish.
