Trivia[]

  1. First Scream film where neither of the killers have a personal motive against Sidney Prescott.
  2. The first Scream movie in which the first victim not only survives the opening, but even the entire movie.
  3. Like all previous four Scream films, Roger L. Jackson is actually on the phone with the characters as Ghostface.
  4. Sidney's line in the film "I'm Sidney fucking Prescott, of course I have a gun", was Neve Campbell's idea to include.
  5. The first Scream film not directed by Wes Craven, who passed away in August of 2015 from cancer. The character of Wes was named in honor of him and the film is dedicated to him in the end credits.
  6. While Richie is watching a YouTube video about Stab 8, one of the thumbnail recommendations beside it is an interview with Woodsboro survivor Kirby Reed played by Hayden Panettiere in Scream 4 (2011). This Easter egg confirms her survival, as her fate had been speculated ever since the release of the 4th film.
  7. Hayden Panettiere didn't film any scenes, but she did record ADR for its Wes Craven tribute. During Amber's house party, Chad raises a toast to Wes Hicks (Dylan Minnette), who was murdered by Ghostface. This was the filmmakers' way of honoring Craven's legacy, and the chorus of voices heard is full of returning Scream actors. Some of the voices belong to the cast and crew of this film, but there are also cameos from Drew Barrymore, Matthew Lillard, and Jamie Kennedy. Henry Winkler, who played Principal Himbry in the original added his voice to the scene. Scream 4 (2011) is further represented by Adam Brody, who portrayed Detective Hoss. Several key figures from behind the camera also lent their voices to the toast; Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first, second and fourth movies and executive produces this film is accompanied by original composer Marco Beltrami, editor Patrick Lussier, producer Julie Plec and Craven's widow, Iya. What is already a perfect Wes Craven tribute is made even more poignant knowing so many people who cared for him were involved in this wonderfully meta scene.
  8. According to Courteney Cox, there was a scene filmed in the hospital that hints at Dewey's possible survival, but it was filmed on reserve and it is unlikely that it will be used as a loophole for Dewey's eventual return (in one form or another).
