Plot
Roman J. Israel, Esq. ([[]]), a driven, idealistic defense attorney, finds himself in a tumultuous series of events that lead to a crisis and the necessity for extreme action, following his mentor's William Jackson death and arrival of former protégé George Pierce ([[]]) to oversee the firm's closure and transfer its staff including Roman to his own law practice. But when an innocent murder suspect Derrell Ellerbee ([[]]) dies due in part to Roman, it is a catalyst for him to decide to throw caution to the wind and uses information he gained from Derrell to help bring in notorious long-time criminal underworld player Carter Johnson ([[]]) for a cash reward, consequences of his actions soon come back to bite him, when Carter himself figures out who betrayed him, having become Pierce and Roman's newest client.
