Trivia[]

  • An extended version of the film, which added previously unused footage to increase the running time, was broadcast on the ABC television network several times.
  • Cillian Murphy wanted the role of Jackson so badly that he took a plane from England to Hollywood two days before his wedding to have lunch with Wes Craven. Craven later gave him the part saying that his eyes won him over.
  • When a woman spills an iced cappuccino on Lisa, the expression on Rachel McAdams' face was a real surprise, not acted. She did not know that the beverage would be so cold.
  • Rachel McAdams enjoyed working with Cillian Murphy, saying, "They say the nicest people sometimes make the best villains. We'd listen to music and gab away while doing the crossword puzzle, which he brought every day and would graciously let me chime in on."
  • The pen used in this movie has a monster on the end of it. In the original script, it was a pen with Bart Simpson on it, but since they couldn't get the rights to use it, they had to settle with the monster.
  • The trailer deliberately starts off like a romantic comedy before revealing itself to be a thriller.
  • Marco Beltrami, the composer for this film, has also frequently worked with filmmaker Wes Craven (the director of this film) with other horror films such as Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4 and Cursed.
  • Wes Craven cited this film as one of his personal favorite films of his career.
  • The cheer leading outfit in the closet is a nod to the 2002 comedy film The Hot Chick, which starred Rachel McAdams.
  • The cast includes two Academy Award nominees; Cillian Murphy (an Oscar winner), and Rachel McAdams (an Oscar nominee).
  • The angry hotel customer we see at the beginning and end of the film was played by Terry Press, who was not an actress at all, and Red Eye is her only acting credit. She was the head of marketing at Dreamworks, and Wes Craven met her in a board meeting while doing pre-production on the film. He told her that he thought she would play a great angry customer, and after some persuading, convinced her to take the small role.
  • Cillian Murphy accidentally threw Rachel McAdams on the wrong mark in the airplane bathroom scene, resulting in her hitting her head for real and losing consciousness briefly. Murphy felt terrible and was very reluctant to shoot the scene again after that.
