- The lead role was offered to Jesse Plemons but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with his movie Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) which was shooting at the same time.
- The set of four lights (seen at 1:03 in the trailer) match a description of a phenomenon witnessed at the Sherman "Skinwalker" Ranch in the Utah desert, a site associated with paranormal events.
- After the release of the film's trailer and Super Bowl LVI commercial, viewers began theorizing that the film may involve an alien invasion, believing the title to be an acronym for Not Of Planet Earth, despite the plot still being kept under wraps at the time.
- Principal photography began on June 7, 2021, in Los Angeles.
- 22nd of July 2021 Jordan Peele released an image on Instagram for this movie with a title called NOPE.
