Melvyn Douglas (1901 - 1981)

Film Deaths[]

  • Hud (1963) [Homer Bannon]: Fatally injured (on top of old age and general ill health) after falling from his horse (off-screen); he dies shortly after Paul Newman and Brandon De Wilde discover him in the road. (Thanks to Joe)
  • Being There (1979) [Benjamin Turnbull Rand]: Dies of aplastic anemia, with Peter Sellers and Richard Dysart by his bedside. (Thanks to Joe)
  • The Changeling (1980) [Senator Joseph Carmichael]: Dies of a (possibly supernaturally-induced) fatal heart attack shortly after the truth about his adoptive father is revealed to him by George C. Scott. During/shortly after his death, Melvyn's spirit is seen climbing the stairs of a burning house in order to return a keepsake to its rightful owner.
  • Ghost Story (1981) [Dr. John Jaffrey]: Dies of a heart attack in his pharmacy after being frightened by Alice Krige's ghost.
