Video Game Death Scenes[]

  • Dragon Age: Origins (2009) [Athras/Gatekeeper]: "Athras" is killed by werewolves during the attack on the Dalish camp, should the player choose to side with the werewolves; "Gatekeeper" is killed in combat by the player characters, if the player chooses to wipe them out, before or after Tim Russ is convinced to cure them.
  • Mass Effect 2 (2010) [Commander Shepard - Male/Additional voices]: Asphyxiates when his space-suit springs a leak, shortly after rescuing Seth Green from the wreckage of the Normandy; however, he is resurrected two years later on Martin Sheen's orders. Late in the game, Mark can fall to his death at the end of the Suicide Mission, provided that none of his squad-members have survived to help him into the Normandy SR2's airlock. Mark also voices many of the enemy soldiers encountered during gameplay.
  • Mass Effect 3 (2012) [Commander Shepard - Male/Additional voices]: Can die in four of the game's endings - (Destroy) is killed in the aftermath of the Reapers' destruction unless the player has enough War Assets; (Synthesis) is disintegrated when he throws himself into the Catalyst in order to add his essence to it, transforming all lifeforms in the galaxy; (Refusal) is killed along with the rest of the galaxy by the Reapers; (Control) is disintegrated while using the Crucible to reprogram the Reapers - though in the case of this last ending, Mark lives on as the artificial intelligence that now controls the Reapers. Mark also voices many of the enemy soldiers encountered during gameplay.
  • Mass Effect 3: Citadel (2013) [Commander Shepard - Male/Shepard Clone - Male]: Playing both the real "Shepard" and his clone, the clone falls to his death from the Normandy after a fight with the original, either falling after having his hands stomped by "Shepard", or committing suicide after realising that Siobhan Hewlett won't help him; the real "Shepard" survives the game.
