Synopsis[]

The U.S. government recruits Machete (Danny Trejo) to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer (Mel Gibson) who looks to launch a weapon into space.

  • This is the first film of Charlie Sheen's career in which he is credited under his birth name, Carlos Estevez. He is humorously given an "introducing" credit.
  • This film was Mel Gibson’s first role as a villain.
  • The film was shot in 29 days.
  • During the fight scene between Machete (Danny Trejo) and Voz (Mel Gibson), the "William Wallace" sword from the 1995 film Braveheart, which Gibson starred in.
  • Film director Robert Rodriguez wrote the part of Voz with Mel Gibson in mind.
  • Michelle Williams was offered the role of Miss San Antonio, but declined. The role went to Amber Heard.
