- This film star Will Smith who infamously slap Chris Rock in 94th Oscars where he made a joke about Will's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith's alopecia. After slapping Chris Rock, Smith replied "Keep my wife's name out your f***ing mouth!" twice. He apologised to the Academy but not to Rock.

- Saniyya Sidney who is left-handed and had never played tennis before, had to learn to play like Venus Williams who is right-handed. Her grueling Mon-Fri training regime involved a strict diet and exercise, and many hours of watching videos of Venus, ranging from her victories at major tournaments like the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.
- As a thank you to the cast, Will Smith divided his $40 million earnings from the movie amongst the other actors as bonuses for them.
- The screenplay "King Richard" was featured in the 2018 Black List, an annual list of well-received, unproduced screenplays.
- Due to the pandemic, table reads were conducted on Zoom.

- The most common way to determine who serves first in a match is the racket spin. Each racket has some sort of logo, letter, or drawing in the bottom of its grip, which will be different depending on the racket's brand. Player A covers the bottom of a racquet's grip and begins spinning it. Player B chooses either "big line up" or "big line down" (if the racquet is a Babolat), or "M" or "W" (if the racquet is a Wilson). Player B then tells player A when to stop spinning, and the outcome of the spin will determine who wins it.
- Demi Singleton stunned as Serena Williams in "King Richard." She admits it wasn't her first shot at the job; Ms. Singleton portrayed Ms. Williams in a 2019 Super Bowl commercial for the dating app Bumble.
- Jon Bernthal was considered for the role of Colonel Rick Flag in Suicide Squad (2016) which also starred Will Smith. Smith passed on doing its sequel The Suicide Squad (2021) because he was doing this movie.
- Erin Cummings, who plays a social worker, did not see footage of the film till attending a convention with John Campea.
