Trivia[]

  1. Hiroyuki Imaishi came up with the concept after observing the similarity between the Japanese terms "fassho" and "fasshon" ("fascism" and "fashion"), and the dual meaning of the terms "seifuku" (it means both "conquest" and "uniform") and "kiru" (it means both "to kill" and "to wear").
  2. The uniform Ryuko possesses is called "Senketsu", which means "fresh blood". Conversely, the uniform her rival Satsuki possesses is called "Junketsu", which means "purity".
  3. The producers cite Sukeban deka (1985) (a show about a schoolgirl who infiltrates a school to put a stop to criminal activities) as an influence on the show.
  4. Studio Trigger's first TV series and currently the only one to be rated TV-MA in the USA, all the others are rated TV-14 or lower. However it received a TV-14 rating on certain services.
