Trivia[]

  1. Halle Berry broke three ribs while filming the movie.
  2. Keanu Reeves began training for this film four months before filming. He says, "There are so many different kinds of action sequences, not only more styles of martial arts and more gunplay, but also motorcycles, horses and dogs, so the training was intense. But honestly, I love it. I love this character and I love the John Wick universe we've created."
  3. Early on, Wick finds himself in a room filled with revolvers from the 19th century. Desperately, he swaps parts of the revolvers, listens to the mechanisms as he spins the cylinders and cocks the different hammers. This is a homage to the scene in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), when Tuco is assembling a revolver to suit his taste from a multitude of other revolvers in a gunsmith's shop.
  4. "Guns. Lots of Guns." (From the trailer) The same line used by Neo (Keanu Reeves) in The Matrix (1999).
  5. Keanu Reeves was asked if he did his own stunts when John Wick was hit by the cars and he responded by saying, "Well, I would've, but you know, hospital. I could've maybe done it once, but that would've been it for me."
  6. Halle Berry had to learn dog training during the production. She spent six months learning how to train dogs.
  7. Halle Berry had to focus on increasing her endurance while training. She says, "Because of Chad's long takes, it's essential to have really good cardiovascular stamina so I could do lots of moves at once and then do them over and over. I also wanted to show I could keep up with Keanu Reeves, which is no easy deal."
  8. On May 20th, 'John Wick: Chapter 4', along with its release date, was confirmed via a text message: "You have served. You will be of service. John Wick: Chapter 4 is coming - May 21st, 2021."
  9. The filmmakers wanted to send John Wick to Morocco as an homage to the famous Humphrey Bogart noir, "Casablanca." Rick's Place from "Casablanca" inspired the idea for The Continental. Director Chad Stahelski says, "That's where we first got the idea that all assassins would go to one place all over the world, their only refuge from the dangers of the street."
  10. The title "Parabellum" comes from the Latin phrase: "Si vis pacem, para bellum" which means "If you want peace, prepare for war." It is also an alternate name for the ubiquitous 9mm handgun cartridge ("9mm Parabellum"). The phrase itself appears three times in the movie: it is tattooed on the back of the ballerina girl in the beginning, it appears on the door of a bus outside the hotel, and Winston (Ian McShane) says it out loud later in the movie.
