- Five Corners (1987) [Heinz]: Shot in the back with an arrow as John is carrying Jodie Foster onto a roof.
- The Sicilian (1987) [Pisciotta]: Commits suicide by drinking opium.
- Catchfire (1990) [Pinella]: Shot in the throat and chest by Dennis Hopper.
- Men of Respect (1990) [Mike Battaglia]: Shot to death by Peter Boyle.
- Miller's Crossing (1990) [Bernie "The Schmatte Kid" Bernbaum]: Shot in the forehead by Gabriel Byrne.
- Brain Donors (1992) [Roland T. Flakfizer]: Shot to death whilst in a duck suit by Mel Smith and Bob Nelson, who are dressed as hunters, in the play within the film (John survives the film in reality) (Played for Comedic Effect).
- The Luzhin Defence (2000) [Aleksandr Ivanovich "Sascha" Luzhin]: Commits suicide by jumping from a bathroom window, due to his mental illness.
- Monkeybone (2001) [Monkeybone]: Playing the voice of an animated character in a world of comas, he dies while his consciousness is in the body of Brendan Fraser after falling at the end of a fight with Chris Kattan, whom is possessed by Fraser's consciousness. He eventually ceases to exist when Whoopi Goldberg places him back in Fraser's mind as an idea.
- A Few Days In September (2006) [William Pound]: Shot to death by Juliette Binoche during a shoot-out at the end of the film.
- Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) [Seti I]: Dies from an unspecified disease. He dies with his sons Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton by his side.
- The Batman (2022) [Carmine Falcone]: Shot in the chest with a sniper rifle by Paul Dano, as he is being arrested. Although Robert Pattinson attempts to save John from being shot by Colin Farrell, who was threatening him with an UZI, Paul manages to shoot John before Robert can get to him. John dies while looking up at Robert in shock, before Zoë Kravitz looks down at John's corpse.

- Miami Vice: Rites of Passage (1985) [David Traynor]: Shot to death by Pam Grier, after she finds out that John was the one who gave Tery Ferman an overdose of heroin.
