- Zulu Dawn (1979) [Lt. Melvill]: Stabbed to death along with Christopher Cazenove by Zulu warriors on the riverbank at the ending of the Battle at Isandhlwana. (Not quite accurate, Coghill and Melvill managed to move a hundred yards off the bank before getting cornered in rocks and stabbed to death.)
- The Bank Job (2008) [Guy Singer]: Stabbed in the back by a hitman while James is checking a locker.

- I, Claudius (1976 TV mini-series) [Herod Agrippa]: Dies (off-screen) of an unspecified sudden illness; we learn of his death afterwards when Derek Jacobi gets the news.
- The Blackheath Poisonings (1992) [Roger Vandervent]: Poisoned by Ian McNeice.
- Da Vinci's Demons: Season 3, Episode 10: Ira Deorum (2013) [Pope Sixtus IV]: Strangled to death by his nephew Blake Ritson.
- Game of Thrones: Eastwatch (2017) [Randyll Tarly]: Burned alive with his son (Tom Hopper) by a Dragon's fire breath on the orders of Emilia Clarke after they refused to bend the knee.
- Death in Paradise: Written in Murder (2018) [Frank O'Toole]: Stabbed through the heart with a diver's knife by Sian Gibson.
- Slow Horses: Follies (2022) [Charles Partner]: Shot in the head with a handgun by Gary Oldman as he takes a bath, under the orders of Jonathan Pryce. Gary first James' his head under the water, before shooting him. Gary then sets up the scene to make it appear that James had committed suicide.
