- River Phoenix was originally cast as Daniel Molloy. However, he died from a drug overdose on October 31, 1993, less than four weeks before filming was scheduled to take place. The role of Daniel was later recast to his good friend Christian Slater. Phoenix was dedicated at the end of the film's credits.
