- It was originally titled Sydney and when it was in competition of Un Certain Regard at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. It was changed to Hard Eight by Rysher Entertainment who also recut the film and enraged Paul Thomas Anderson, He convince the studio to release his cut but keep new title.
