- Rawhide: Incident of the Mountain Man (1963) [Buffalo Horn]: Shot to death (off-screen) by his friend/enemy of 30 years Robert Middleton. We see Hal's Kiowa war party emerge from the trees into Robert's camp site and after a few words the camera cuts to Clint Eastwood and Pat Crowley escaping who hears the short exchange of rifle fire. Even though his body is never shown as efficient as Robert was of dispatching an enemy and the advantage he had in the situation it is extremely unlikely that Hal could have survived.
