  • The Crowd Roars (1938) [Brian McCoy]: Shot in the chest in a shoot-out with Paul Fix and Al Hill in the warehouse where they were holding him hostage.
  • The Mortal Storm (1940) [Prof. Victor Routh]: Dies off-screen, in prison. we only hear of his death when a spokesperson informs his group of friends.
  • The Human Comedy (1943) [Willie Grogan]: Dies (off-screen) of a heart-attack in the telegraph office, after receiving a message informing him of Van Johnson's death. His body is shown when Mickey Rooney discovers him.
