Frank Finlay in The Black Adder: The Witchsmeller Pursuivant

Frank Finlay (1926 - 2016)

Film DeathsEdit

  • The Deadly Bees (1966) [H.W. Manfred]: Falls to his death from the staircase, while on fire and being attacked by his own bees (due to Suzanna Leigh knocking the attracting liquid back on him) in the burning house.
  • Shaft in Africa (1973) [Vincent Amafi]: Drowned in a fountain by his 'prisoners' after they break free as he tried to blow them up. His body is shown floating afterwards.
  • The Key (La Chiave) (1983) [Nino Rolfe]: Dies of a heart attack while making love or preparing to make love with Stefania Sandrelli. (My memory of this movie is vague.)
  • Lifeforce (1985) [Dr. Hans Fallada]: Becomes infected (off-screen) by the space vampire plague, he is later shot beneath the heart by Peter Firth.

TV DeathsEdit

  • ITV Sunday Night Theatre: The Death of Adolf Hitler (1973) [Adolf Hitler]: Commits suicide by shooting himself in the head in his bunker. (I haven't seen this, but we all know the history...)
  • The Black Adder: The Witchsmeller Pursuivant (1983) [The Witchsmeller Pursuivant]: Burned to death when he spontaneously combusts after a wax voodoo doll falls into the fire, as he starts to burn Rowan Atkinson, Tim McInnerny, and Tony Robinson at the stake. (Played for comic effect.)
  • A Christmas Carol (1984 TV) [Marley's Ghost]: Dies (off-screen) of natural causes, several years before the story begins; he appears as a ghost to George C. Scott. After informing Scott about being visited by three more spirits, Finlay flies through Scott's open window and disappears into the night.
  • Prime Suspect: The Final Act (2006) [Arnold Tennison]: Dies of cancer in his hospital bed with daughter Helen Mirren by his side. (Thanks to Brian)

Notable connectionsEdit

  • Mr. Doreen Shepherd (widowed).
