Noel Percell in Shake Hands with the Devil.

Noel Purcell (1900 - 1985)

Film Deaths[]

  • The Blue Lagoon (1949) [Paddy Button]: Presumably dies of natural causes some time after being stranded on the island with Susan Stranks and Peter Jones. (I haven’t seen this version, but I’ve seen Leo McKern’s death scene in the 1980 version).
  • Svengali (1954) [Patrick O'Ferrall]: Dies of an unspecified illness with his daughter Hildegard Knef at his bedside. (Thanks to Brian)
  • Moby Dick (1956) [Ship’s Carpenter]: Presumably killed when the ship is sunk at the final confrontation of the whale. (I haven’t seen this version, but I know that “Ishmael” (Richard Basehart) was the only survivor).
  • Shake Hands with the Devil (1959) [Liam O’Sullivan]: Shot to death in a shoot-out with the British soldiers after they find him hiding in a trunk; we only see the soldiers firing.
  • Solomon and Sheba (1959) [David (scenes deleted)]: Dies of old age/natural causes with his son (Tyrone Power) by his side. (though he was replaced by Finlay Currie in re-shoots with Yul Brynner, this might as well count since Noel filmed his scenes. Most of Noel's footage is believed to be lost, but stills are seen on the internet).
