Trivia[]
- Based on the original manga Excel Saga written by Koshi Rikdo.
- In addition to directing the anime itself, the series director, Shinichi Watanabe, also appears as himself in said series under the name Nabeshin, appearing for the majority of the series itself.
- For the final episode of the series, Watanabe deliberately filled it with so many mature themes and references that many Japanese networks refused to air it.
- For the ADV Films dub, Jessica Calvello voiced Excel for the first 13 episodes of the series. While recording the remaining 13 episodes, Calvello damaged her vocal cords as a result of the strain from voicing Excel herself, necessitating her replacement by Larissa Wolcott for the rest of the series.
- When ADV Films held the license for the series, its DVD release contained ADVidNotes, which are pop-ups explaining the various pop culture references and gags within the anime. When Funimation rescued the series after ADV's collapse and restructuring in 2009, its release did not contain the VidNotes, since ADV held a patent on them.
