Plot Synopsis

An aging Chinese immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led.

Trivia

1. To keep plot details under wraps before the trailer was released, the official IMDb synopsis read "a woman tries to do her taxes".
2. Ke Huy Quan's first major role in 20 years.
3. When Alpha-Waymond speaks to Evelyn and says, "Your clothes never wear as well the next day, your hair never falls in quite the same way" this is actually an allusion to the Nine Days song "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)" which features the same lyrics. The underlying plot of the movie aligns with this song.
4. The main actor was originally planned for Jackie Chan in this movie, but the directors gender-swapped the role to Michelle Yeoh.
5. Ke Huy Quan delivers a subtle reference to his Indiana Jones character Short Round when yelling at Evelyn to "snap out of it!" This scene plays out exactly the same in the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) when Indy (Harrison Ford) is cast under a spell by Mola Ram (Amrish Puri)
6. The second major motion picture collaboration with 'Daniels' (Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert). The first being 2016's Swiss Army Man (2016). In 2019, Scheinert directed The Death of Dick Long (2019) by himself.
7. Ke Huy Quan (who plays Waymond Wang in this movie) was a production assistant and an assistant action choreographer on the 2001 Jet Li movie The One, also a martial arts / action movie in which the main character encounters numerous multiverse iterations of himself.
8. A box of Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa, a Chinese herbal syrup used for all kinds of ailments, is shown in the opening shot of the film above the circular mirror.
9. In the scene where Joy invites her mother, Evelyn, to sit on the couch with her she loosely quotes John McClane from Die Hard by saying "Come Out To The Couch, We'll Get Together, Have A Few Laughs..." where as the original quote replaces "couch" with "coast".
