- Cabin in the Sky (1943) [Joseph 'Little Joe' Jackson]: Shot in the chest by John William Sublett in a nightclub, as Lena Horne looks on in horror. Eddie and Ethel Waters appear as spirits in the afterlife afterwards. The whole thing turns out to be Eddie's dream/vision as he's unconscious from a previous shooting; he and Ethel survive the movie in reality. (Thanks to DeMan)
