Film Deaths[]

  • The Mummy Returns (2001) [Mathayus / The Scorpion King]: During the prologue sequence Dwayne leads a failed military campaign to conquer the world and is exiled to a scorching desert where he begins to succumb to starvation and heat exhaustion until he sells his soul to the Egyptian god Anubis in exchange for the power to defeat his enemies. Once Dwayne's task is finished his soul is claimed from his body by Anubis. Later in the climax, Dwayne is reincarnated (his likeness recreated with CGI) as a centauric human-scorpion hybrid monster, and after a brief battle is stabbed in the abdomen with the Spear of Osiris by Brendan Fraser before being sent back to the Underworld.
  • The Scorpion King (2002) [Mathayus]: Shot fatally with an arrow by Steven Brand in one of Kelly Hu's visions; it is later averted in reality.
  • Doom (2005) [Gunnery Sergeant Asher "Sarge" Mahonin]: Killed in an explosion when Karl Urban sends him through the portal and then throws a grenade after him, after Dwayne has started to transform into a monster.
  • Southland Tales (2007) [Boxer Santaros]: Killed in an explosion, along with everybody else on the Mega-Zeppelin, when Lou Taylor Pucci fires a missile at it. Through time-travel machinations, a time-displaced Santaros is also killed (off-screen) in an explosion by a car bomb; throughout the movie, references are made to a mysterious body being found, until it's explained that this body is the "other" Boxer.
  • Reno 911! Miami (2007) [Rick Smith, SWAT]: Blown up in an explosion after he runs into a decontamination tent to retrieve a grenade he had dropped. (Played for comedic effect.)
  • Get Smart (2008) [Agent 23]: Killed in a car crash/explosion when his SUV (which has been set on fire) collides with a train at the end of a chase, and struggles in his vehicle with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway who leap clear before impact.
  • Faster (2010) [Jimmy Cullen / Driver]: Is clinically dead after being shot in the back of the head by Billy Bob Thornton after he sees his brother (Matt Gerald) being murdered by Lester Speight; he is later revived by hospital staff.
  • The Other Guys (2010) [Christopher Danson]: Jumps to his death, along with Samuel L. Jackson, when they leap from a rooftop pursuing a suspect. (Played for comedic effect.)
  • Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) [Dr. Xander "Smolder" Bravestone]: Playing Alex Wolff's video game avatar: (1) Falls to his death after Kevin Hart/Ser'Darius Blain pushes him off a cliff, as Jack Black/Madison Iseman and Karen Gillan/Morgan Turner look on in shock. (2) Devoured by a panther, after he falls out of a tree when he is startled by a squirrel. Both times, he re-spawns shortly afterwards, using up one of his video game "lives".
  • Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) [Dr. Smolder Bravestone / Bravestone's Father]: Playing Danny DeVito's video game avatar, and later Alex Wolff's, he dies twice: (1) Disintegrated by an Ostrich (2) Killed by a Rocket Launcher along with Alex/Awkwafina, Jack/Ser'Darius, Kevin/Danny Glover, and Karen/Morgan that was fired by Massi Furlan's men. Both times, he re-spawns shortly afterwards, using up one of his video game "lives". He also plays Bravestone's father who was killed off-screen by Rory McCann earlier on in the film in a flashback/cutscene. Dwayne never dies when Alex takes on his avatar.
  • Jungle Cruise (2021) [Frank Wolff]: Turns into stone after he crashes his boat to block the river. He is revived by Emily Blunt by using the petal to restore him.
  • Black Adam (2022) [Teth-Adam / Black Adam]: Thrown by guards after being injured in battle in Ancient Egypt and is then locked in a grave for years. He is revived by Sarah Shahi from his grave and Johnson survives the film.
