Plot Synopsis[]

After his family was brutally murdered and his sister (Akari Kitō/Abby Trott) turned into a demon, Tanjiro Kamado (Natsuki Hanae/Zach Aguilar)'s journey as a demon slayer began. Tanjiro and his comrades embark on a new mission aboard the Mugen Train, on track to despair.

  1. In December 2020, the movie surpassed Spirited Away (2001) as the most successful film at the Japanese box office of all time. Prior to this Toho, the distribution company of both this film and Spirited Away, adjust Spirited Away's box office total to include a re-release. However, Demon Slayer soon surpassed that.
  2. When released, it was the most profitable film to be released in theaters during the Covid-19 pandemic, doing record breaking box office numbers in Japan while the theater industry struggled in other parts of the world.
  3. Overtook Your Name (2016) and Frozen (2013) at the Box office at the end of November 2020 becoming the third highest grossing film of all time in Japan.
  4. The most attended Japanese film of all time.
  5. Currently the highest-grossing R-rated animated movie of all time.
  6. The first anime film since Spirited Away (2001) to earn ¥30 Billion, earning at least 1 Billion on opening day.
  7. On Nov 2, 2020 the film entered into the top 10 highest grossing films of all time at the Japanese box office. By the end of the month the film surpassed Titanic (1997) as the second highest grossing anime film of all time in Japan.
  8. As of May 2021, the Film is the Highest Grossing film of 2020 Worldwide, with a Gross over 460 Million.
  9. The original Title was "Infinite Train" (which was also the Name of the Manga Arc the film is based on); it was presumably Changed to avoid confusion or possible Legal issues with the Cartoon Network Show "Infinity Train."
  10. Overtook Mortal Kombat (2021) and ranked #1 at the U.S. Box Office, the first Japanese anime film to do so since Pokémon: The First Movie (1998), which debuted in the U.S. in 1999.
  11. While still in theaters, the movie temporarily became available for purchase digitally on the PlayStation Store via the PlayStation 4 console on Tuesday April 27 around 1:00 a.m. EDT but was quickly removed.
