  • The Grapes of Wrath (1940) [Grandpa Joad]: Dies of a stroke while travelling with his family, after they carry him out of the truck and set out a blanket for him on the side of the road.
  • They Died With Their Boots On (1941) [California Joe]: Killed by the Indians (with two arrows in his back), alongside Arthur KennedyErrol Flynn and everyone else in The Battle Of The Little Bighorn. (Thanks to Brian)
  • Gunslingers (1947) [Inskip]: Driving his buckboard at a gallop he is shot from distance by Forrest Tucker. He topples into the back and is struggling to get up as it parts company from the horses and ends up on top of him, so it is not clear exactly how he died. (Thanks to Brian)
