- Destry Rides Again (1939) [Washington 'Wash' Dimsdale]: Shot in the back (off-screen) by Brian Donlevy's men when they come to break Allen Jenkins out of jail; he dies shortly afterwards while talking to James Stewart after James arrives at the jail.
- Beyond Tomorrow (Beyond Christmas) (1940) [Michael O'Brien]: Killed in a plane crash, along with C. Aubrey Smith and Harry Carey; they appear as ghosts throughout the rest of the movie.
