Trivia[]

  1. The series was going to be aired on Sci-Fi channel and Adult Swim but media blasters claimed the violence and sexual content would require too many edits.
  2. The manga that the anime is based on had a big influence on the Dark Souls (2011) video game series.
  3. Guts' sword weighs in at approximately 400lb and is 6'6 long- the longest sword to have ever been used in combat in the real world was 7' long but weighed only 14lb.
  4. When Guts' massive sword is unsheathed from his back the sheath often looks similar to a devil's tail. This is most likely a reference to the numerous times Guts or those he encounters are said to have "The Devil's own luck".
  5. The anime continued in the form of a Dreamcast and a later PlayStation 2 game. The composer, the Japanese Voice Actors and the manga's original writer all returned.
  6. Guts' appearance is said to be based on Rutger Hauer.
  7. The North America DVDs from Media Blasters come in red DVD cases - to resemble blood.
